10 Essential Tips for Your Cat

Here are a few practical tips for your cats.

Tip #1: As soon as you adopt your cat, remember to have it vaccinated.

Cats are particularly exposed to all kinds of viruses and infections from an early age. From the very first weeks of their life, don't hesitate to have your cat vaccinated. The type of vaccines applied will depend on whether your cat lives mainly indoors or outdoors.

Tip #2: Offer your cat a healthy diet

A good, healthy, balanced diet will increase your cat's life expectancy and promote healthy kitten growth. For kittens, choose kibbles or canned food specially designed for growth. For adult cats, use brand-name kibble and canned food recommended by the Fontainebleau Veterinary Clinic team, according to your pet's needs.

Tip #3: Know your cat's personality

Cats are fundamentally independent and self-reliant. Cats come in a wide variety of characters. Some are cuddly by nature, others lazy or very energetic. In order to establish a healthy and rewarding relationship with your cat, it's important to identify its temperament as soon as possible.

Tip #4: Never forget to feed your cat

If there's one area to which cats are particularly attached, it's food. Cats are hunters by nature, and love to stalk birds and mice. But they're also particularly fond of finding their food bowl full, and will resent you if you forget.

Tip #5: Don't be stingy with caresses

More than any other animal, cats enjoy being stroked. It gives them a great sense of well-being, leading to a long series of purrs. So don't hesitate for a moment to give your cat this pleasure, which will strengthen your bond.

Tip #6: Take care of their hygiene

It's clear that a cat is naturally cleaner than a dog, as it grooms itself. Aside from vaccinations and deworming, keep your cat groomed, especially if it has long hair. Some breeds require almost daily brushing.

Tip #7: Respect your cat's territory

A cat needs a retreat all to itself. In this sense, it is necessary to reserve a special place that is just for your cat and in which your feline friend can feel at peace, where it can sleep, play and, above all, enjoy calm.

Tip #8: Set rules for your cat

Although a cat is trained differently than a dog, this doesn't mean that all training is impossible. From a young age, you must teach your cat what is tolerated and what is forbidden. You must establish rules of conduct that your cat must adhere to.

Tip #9: Don't leave your cat alone for too long

Even though cats are very independent animals, it is strongly recommended not to leave them alone for several days. In the event of extended trips, you should not hesitate to entrust them to a loved one. Ideally, your four-legged friend should remain in its own environment, and a trusted person should visit daily to feed, provide water, empty the litter box, and give your cat affection.

Tip #10: Know how to take your cat's aging into account

Like any living being, cats age. The life expectancy of a cat varies depending on the breed. A cat can generally live an average of fifteen years. Old age is generally felt by a gradual slowdown in its physical activity. It is very important to note all changes in behaviour and discuss them with our medical staff.
